According to BarkPost, 1.2 million dogs are euthanized each year, and approximately 40 percent of those dogs are pit bulls. That means nearly half a million pit bulls and pit mixes are killed in shelters annually.
Had it not been for the folks at Hope For Paws, Brutus probably would have suffered the same fate.
The brown and white pit bull was abandoned in downtown Los Angeles and left to roam the streets alone, hungry and filthy. Edgar and his partner tracked him down in an alleyway and slowly approached him in their car, unsure of how Brutus would react.
Hope For Paws has released countless rescue videos showing stray dogs who are terrified and reluctant to trust at first. However, Brutus’ rescue video is different from all the rest, and for the best reason ever — the staff says it’s one of the happiest rescues Hope For Paws has ever achieved.
Brutus shows immediate interest and kindness in Eldad and Lisa, which is very rare in a potentially dangerous dog rescue. It’s almost as if he knows they’re there to save him. Brutus was so sweet and friendly that Eldad and Lisa wanted to make sure he didn’t actually belong to anyone. The mechanics who worked nearby and often spotted Brutus confirmed he was indeed homeless.
Wait until you see how easy it is for the heroic duo to earn Brutus’ trust and get him into the car. Once inside, he showers them both with kisses and cuddles, and by the end of the video it’s impossible not to fall in love with this gentle giant.
“This was definitely the easiest Hope For Paws rescue mission ever!” Eldad writes. I have a feeling it won’t be difficult to match Brutus with his adoptive family.
